The SMEF awards grants for creative and innovative teaching techniques and ideas to be used in the classroom to enhance the learning experience for SMCISD students and teachers.

The SMEF grant committee is dedicated to ensuring that funds are distributed based on strict criteria.  Monies are only awarded to creative and innovative projects not funded through tax dollars.

Grants are awarded each spring for projects to begin the following fall semester.  Professional personnel working directly with students for the SMCISD including teachers, nurses, counselors and librarians may apply for individual, team or campus-wide grants.

The selection criteria for the grants include the following:

  • Project addresses important program objectives.

  • Project represents a creative or innovative approach to learning.

  • Project impacts the maximum number of students appropriate to the category (individual, team or campus) or project.

Grant applications must include the following:

  • Specific learning objectives are listed.

  • A clear description of instructional strategies.

  • Sound evaluative procedures are listed.

  • Alignment of objectives, instructional strategies and evaluative procedures is apparent.

Available funds are:

  • Up to $2,500 for individual projects

  • Up to $5,000 for team or department projects
